historyAustralia is originaly called Aussie
It has been a continent for 50 million years. Before the european people discovered australia there had lived aboriginals for over 2000 years in harmony with the nature, both in the rainforest and desert. The aboriginals talk 500 different languages, that is just as different as European languages. The first documenet european landing in Australia was the Dutch, Willem Janszoon and hes crew. Great Britain was in need of new land to place its convicts. After early sightings of Australia by James Cook, it was decided that Australia would become a new British colony where convicts would be sent and used for labor in establishing the new colony. In 1788, the first fleet of ships landed in Botany Bay and so began the colonization of Australia. During the period between 1788 and 1868, about 160,000 convicts were sent to Australia. What happened to them when they got to Australia depended on their skills or education, how they behaved themselves and some luck.
Australians history started with migration to the landshape from north for about 50 millions years ago. The written story about Australia started in the 17th. |
